This stunning rammed-earth guesthouse, commissioned by Danish homeware brand Vipp, is more than just a retreat; it’s a tribute to the harmonious relationship between human habitation and the natural landscape.
Design Philosophy: Embracing Shelter and Openness
The guesthouse features thick walls of pale rammed earth, creating a structure that feels like it has always been a part of the desert environment. PPAA’s founding partner, Pablo Pérez Palacios, emphasizes that the core aim was to construct a building that integrates seamlessly with its surroundings. The intimate interior spaces open up to extensive outdoor terraces, inviting guests to experience a perfect blend of shelter and openness.
“The challenge was to design a space that provides protection from the harsh desert climate while enhancing natural ventilation, light, and breathtaking views,” says Pérez Palacios.

The use of sliding screens made from locally-sourced Palo de Arco branches for guest bedrooms provides a gorgeous transition between indoor comfort and outdoor splendor.
