Zac Bunston, principal architect, recalls the project’s swift nine-month timeline that brought this transformative vision to life. "Many first projects face significant hiccups, but we experienced a process that many could only dream of," Zac reflects. The journey wasn’t without its challenges, however; unexpected issues were uncovered during renovation that necessitated extensive restoration works. Regular and open communication with the clients, combined with the dedication of builder Robin Riotto of Barkers Burke Construction, became the linchpin for their successful collaboration, forging a happy and transparent relationship.
A Home Reflecting Its Surroundings
The design choices throughout Kesterson House brilliantly decree respect for its environment and heritage. The deep-green joinery draws inspiration from the Boston ivy gracefully adorning the home’s rear facade, merging nature with architecture. The decision to reposition the kitchen to the previously dark center of the home fosters a more inviting and family-friendly atmosphere, connected seamlessly to a newly-reimagined living space that encourages togetherness.

The renovation adds only a meter to Kesterson House’s footprint, adhering closely to the original structure's integrity.
